Job hunting – the pressure mounts

26 June, 2011

Our MBA classes are concluding in a few weeks time and now the pressure is ramping up to find a fulfilling job and a suitable career path.

A large proportion of my classmates have already secured jobs and summer internships. Many classmates are heading to top-notch companies in finance, consulting and industry. McKinsey, Bain, Amazon, IBM, Nomura and Credit Suisse are just some of the employers who have been hiring my brilliant classmates.

Others who have not yet secured a post-MBA position are going to be hunting around for jobs over the summer. While it’s understandably nerve-wracking to be looking for work right before officially finishing the course in September, many students are finding comfort in a jobs report that was issued by the Saïd Business School careers office. The report shows that job prospects were good for the MBA alumni of 2010 and it seems that bodes well for our class of 2011.

Meanwhile, many Oxford MBA students have entrepreneurial aspirations, with one classmate working on building up her new company, Sahara Botanicals, in Chad. Another classmate is launching mDiagnostica, an India-based company that will use mobile technology to connect rural doctors with specialists for remote diagnosis.

It’s an intimidating and exciting time for all my MBA classmates as we look ahead to the future and prepare to take the next big leap forward.
