More on A&M’s improbable win: Syndey Colson makes biggest play in school’s history
Here are some things to take from A&M’s improbable 63-62 victory over Stanford Sunday in the National Semifinals:
-A&M imposed their will on Stanford as they defended them the length of the court, forcing 21 turnovers and limiting the effectiveness of Jeanette Pohlen. The Aggies got the Pac-10 Player of the Year out of her game and, as a result, the flow of the Cardinal’s offense became stagnant. Credit guard Sydney Carter who marked Pohlen for 40 minutes.
-Syndey Colson made the biggest play in the history of A&M women’s basketball. Down one point, with zero timeouts remaining, the senior raced down the floor and found Tyra White streaking down the right side. White made the layup, and the rest is history.
-A&M was in a tough predicament with 5:07 remaining. Down 10 points, it looked like their surprising run was coming to an end. However, Danielle Adams, Carter and White hit big shots down the stretch. Coupled with excellent defense, the Aggies really got into the heads of Stanford, and it showed in the Cardinal’s performance late.
-It has been a season of firsts for A&M. It was their first 30-win season. Adams was their first All-American. It was their first Final Four appearance. And now, they get a shot in their first National Championship game.
