Two Longhorns make Team USA for 2011 World Championships in Track & Field
Texas sophomore Marquise Goodwin won the 2011 U.S. Outdoor Track and Field long jump national title Saturday afternoon at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon to earn a spot on Team USA at the 2011 IAAF World Championships, which will be held in Daegu, Korea, August 27-Sept 4. Joining Goodwin in advancing to the world meet is Texas Ex Leonel Manzano in the 1,500m.
Goodwin jumped a personal-best 27-4 (8.33m/2.1w) on his fourth attempt. This will be his first trip to the World Championships. (He’s also a two-time World Junior Champion in the long jump and 4x100m.)
Manzano ran the mile in 3:48.16 to finish in third place. He’ll compete in his third World Championship.
